Pain Management at Irondequoit Animal Hospital

It is heartbreaking when your pet is in pain, whether the cause is an illness, injury, or recovery from a medical procedure. At Irondequoit we are experts in pain management. We will provide the best possible care to alleviate your pet’s discomfort and will educate you on the options you have at home.

Preventing Pain

Routine health and wellness care are vital to keeping your pet healthy and free of pain. This should include a course of vaccinations as well as routine diagnostic lab work. Proper nutrition is also important in preventing health issues that can cause pain. One of the problems with pain management in pets is that they do not often let you know that they are in discomfort. Our veterinarians and staff can detect the symptoms of pet pain and teach you what to look for.

Hidden Pain

A few symptoms of a dog or cat in pain are:

  • Panting
  • Lethargy
  • Hiding
  • Loss of appetite
  • Vocalization such as whimpering or yowling
  • Limping
  • Acting out or unusual disobedience
  • Growling or aggression
  • Restlessness
  • Excessive licking
  • Biting
  • Refusal to play or respond to commands

If your pet displays behavioral changes in general, it is important to contact us for an immediate exam.
